Music Program Overview
“Music For Life”
In my classroom, musical excellence is treated not as a destination, but as a discipline that mirrors a life well-lived. By maintaining high expectations, students are challenged to master technical precision in their craft while simultaneously developing the "left-brain" analytical rigor and personal accountability required for success outside the practice room. We dive into a vibrant diversity of repertoire, moving from the intricate counterpoint of the Baroque era to the polyrhythmic complexities of West African drumming and modern jazz.
This breadth ensures that students don't just play notes; they explore the full spectrum of their instrumental abilities, discovering hidden strengths through improvisation and cross-genre experimentation. Ultimately, the goal is to foster a holistic artist—one who possesses the technical prowess to tackle any score and the cultural empathy to understand the world that created it.
